YouTube at 10

Despite its ubiquity in modern life, it is hard to imagine that YouTube is today only celebrating its 10th birthday.

YouTube, which receives in excess of 1 billion views each day, has transcended its purpose as a video sharing platform and is now the second largest search engine in the world, processing around 3 billion queries per month.

Despite many industry commentators balking at the pricetag of its $1.65bn sale to Google in 2006, YouTube is today worth in excess of $40bn and generated $5.9bn in ad revenue in 2014 alone.

The platform now reaches more U.S. adults between 18-34 than any TV network, and it its users were its population, YouTube would be the 3rd largest country in the world (after China and India).
